Caring for a Sick Child on Holiday
A holiday is the perfect time to relax and have fun. However, what happens if your child becomes sick on holiday? If you’re anxious about travelling with a sick child then there’s no need to worry as there are several things you can do to care for them.
Make a note of health facilities
Before you travel make a note of health facilities near to where you’re staying. That way if your child happens to become ill on holiday, you’ll know exactly where you need to go to get treatment.
Take a travel first aid kit with you
Keep a travel first aid kit with you on holiday, so if you’re child needs immediate attention you can give it to them. The Spillyspoon Ouch Pouch is the ideal travel first aid kit as it contains lots of essential items. Inside, you’ll find children’s plasters, sterile wipes, hand sanitizer, a 60ml bottle for medicine, the spilly spoon, thermal insulated bag, thermometer, Zgel for bruises and bumps and it will fit the Epi pen for children with allergies.
Ask for a translator
If you’re in a foreign country then don’t be afraid to ask for a translator as many medics may not speak English. A translator will help you to understand what is happening and any treatment that your child may need.
Observe any symptoms
If your child feels ill then they may just require rest and attention. However, it’s a good idea to keep an eye out for any symptoms that occur and to get medical attention if their symptoms get worse.
Drink mineral water
Some resorts specify that you don’t drink their tap water as it’s not suitable. Remember to purchase lots of bottled water for you and your children to drink as this will help to avoid any illness. Make sure you brush your teeth with bottled water too and use their tap water for washing yourself only.
